  • What are the similarities between inductors and capacitors

The series resonanceunder Wuhan UHV can help many power workers conduct various power tests more conveniently.

The commonalities between inductance and capacitance can be summarized as follows:

    Energy storage:

Inductance: Inductors can convert electrical energy into magnetic energy and store it. When current passes through an inductor, a magnetic field is generated around it. When the current changes, this magnetic field also changes, thereby generating induced electromotive force and hindering the change of current. This characteristic enables inductors to store energy.

Capacitor: Capacitor is the ability to accommodate an electric field. When a voltage is applied between the two plates of a capacitor, the capacitor stores charge and energy in the form of an electric field.

    Obstructing current changes:

Inductance: Inductance impedes the change of current, that is, when the current attempts to change its magnitude, the inductance will generate an electromotive force in the opposite direction of the current change, thereby slowing down the change of current.

Capacitor: Although capacitors allow AC power to pass through, for AC power, the plates of the capacitor will charge and discharge according to the frequency of the AC power, which is actually a form of obstruction to current changes, but in a different way from inductance.

Different responses to DC and AC:

Inductance: In a DC steady-state circuit, inductance is equivalent to a path; In a steady-state AC circuit, the inductor current lags behind the voltage by 90 °.

Capacitor: In a steady-state DC circuit, a capacitor is equivalent to a circuit breaker; In a steady-state AC circuit, the capacitor current leads the voltage by 90 °.

    No power consumption:

Inductors and capacitors are energy storage components that do not consume power, and their energy dissipation characteristics are different from resistors. They store energy in the form of electric or magnetic fields and release energy when needed.

    Sensitivity to frequency:

Inductance: The higher the frequency, the stronger the ability of inductance to obstruct the passage of current.

Capacitor: The higher the frequency, the weaker the ability of the capacitor to block current flow.

    All are circuit components:

Inductors and capacitors are common components in circuits, used to achieve various circuit functions and performance.

In summary, inductors and capacitors have similarities in energy storage, hindering current changes, different responses to DC and AC, not consuming power, and sensitivity to frequency. These commonalities make them play important roles in circuits and widely used in various electronic devices.
